One of the varieties of the numerous family of Pimiento peppers with red flat sweet fruits. The color and flavor of this pepper is so intense that it has been used by Spanish cheese makers for centuries to color and flavor their famous cheeses. The shape of this pepper also resembles a cheese wheel. If you have ever eaten olives or deli meats with peppers, then you have tried Pimento peppers! This is an excellent variety of Queso de Pimiento peppers that produces thick, flat, very sweet pimento peppers up to 3-4 inches (7-10 cm) in diameter and up to 2 inches (5 cm) thick. The wall thickness is very large, usually 10 mm. The mass of fruits is from 60 to 120 g, depending on the growing conditions, since this variety needs warmth and plenty of light. This pepper is excellent for stuffing, usually with a mixture of cheeses, for classic canning and whole-fruit pickling. They are small in size but full of great flavor. The variety is medium early (75 days from transplanting) and productive even in bad years. Plants are small in size, up to 60 cm high, very leafy, able to set more than a dozen fruits at the same time. ******************************************************************************************************************************************* Instructions Sow indoors, February-April. A warm kitchen windowsill is all you need for starting these seeds. Sow thinly, 0.5cm (¼") deep, in a tray of compost. Water well and place in a warm position. A temperature of 15-20°C (60-68°F) is ideal. Keep moist. Seedlings usually appear in 7-21 days. Transplant to individual pots when large enough to handle. Grow in cooler, but not cold conditions. Plant out May-June, to large pots, growing bags or into warm, well-drained soil in the greenhouse border. For outdoor crops: delay indoor sowing until March or April. Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions (avoid frosts), before planting out 40cm (16") apart, when frosts are over. Choose a warm, sunny, sheltered spot. Harvest: July-October.
